Roof repairs

A roof repair starts with where the water is getting in. Jamie will look at the covering, the flashings and the ceiling underneath, then say whether a local repair is the honest job or whether the slope needs more than a patch.

What people call about

Stained ceilings after rain, a tile on the ground, a valley that overflows, or a patch that was repaired before and has opened up again. Some of those are a morning's work. Some are the first sign that the covering has had its life.

Visits from the Isleham base cover Ely, Newmarket and Bury St Edmunds.

Repair, or a new roof

Tradex also builds new roofs and replaces flat roofs. If the tiles are failing across the slope, another dab of mortar is a poor use of the money. Jamie will say so on site. This page does not publish a price, because the figure depends on the roof in front of him.

Moss, blocked gutters and a tired chimney often show up on the same visit. Those have their own pages: moss removal and roof cleaning, guttering and soffits, and chimney repointing and repair.

What to tell Jamie

A short description is enough to book a look. Photographs of the ceiling and of the outside help.

  • The town, and whether it is a house, bungalow or outbuilding
  • Where the water or the stain appears
  • Whether it happens in heavy rain or all the time
  • Tile, slate or flat, if you know
  • Any repair already attempted

Questions people ask

Can you look at a leaking roof in Ely, Newmarket or Bury St Edmunds?

Yes. Those are the three towns this site is written for. Tradex is based at Isleham, near Ely. Call Jamie on 0800 0614172 or 07747 809042.

Will a repair always be enough?

Sometimes a local repair is the whole job. If the covering has failed more widely, a new roof may be the straightforward answer. Jamie will say which it is after he has seen it.
